Lets talk about RESPECT.....

Respect begins with oneself.  One must first respect themself before they can respect others, because no one can give what they don't have.

Respect means to place someone or something in high regard and/or give deference to.  Naturally, then, one should hold themself in high regard, particularly if they expect others to do the same.  This doesn't have anything to do with comparing oneself to others.  Instead it has everything to do with being aware of one's own dignity and value apart from making comparisons to others.  If that seems like a very difficult idea to grasp, then self-examination may be necessary in order to resolve this very limiting and damaging mindset.  There may be many reasons for this current inability to value oneself apart from making a comparison to others.  It could be knowledge that one's own actions are not consistent with what one wants and knows they should be, or it could be as a response to current or past external negativity directed ones way.

Regardless of one's current mindset regarding respect, or feelings of dis-respect toward oneself as demonstrated through actions, there is always the opportunity and ability to change.  If lack of respect for oneself is and issue, this is the first place to start on developing the ability to show respect.  As levels of self-respect increase one can more easily and fully show respect for others because of their own inherent value as a human beings.  This takes time and requires discipline and perseverance, no one is perfect, however one can work toward it.
